“Preservation Rhinoplasty, what is it?

Preservation rhinoplasty, also known as conservative rhinoplasty, is a revolutionary new technique for altering the aesthetic appearance of the nose.

The main goal of preservation rhinoplasty is to preserve as much of the patient’s bone and cartilage as possible while improving the aesthetic appearance of the nose.

This procedure results in a natural-looking outcome, with a simpler and less cumbersome postoperative recovery compared to traditional rhinoplasty.

The procedure requires advanced surgical techniques in which the surgeon alters the shape of the nose by strategically removing small amounts of bone and cartilage from underneath the nasal bridge. Skilled preservation rhinoplasty surgeons can reduce the height of the nasal dorsum or bridge without altering the patient’s dorsal lines.

Benefits of conservative rhinoplasty:

Many patients choose rhinoplasty to reduce the height of the nasal bridge and correct a hump or an arch, which they find undesirable.

In traditional rhinoplasty, while patients experienced a change in the nose and a reduction in the height of the dorsal hump, they often felt that the results appeared unnatural. This was primarily due to the alteration of the natural dorsal lines of the nose.

Traditional rhinoplasty involves removing bone and cartilage from the top of the nasal bridge, significantly altering the natural bony structure of the nose. While it corrects the problem of a prominent hump on the nasal bridge, the procedure visibly modifies the natural lines of the nose, often resulting in an unnatural and “operated” appearance.

With preservation rhinoplasty, your surgeon alters the height of the nasal bridge by removing bone and cartilage from underneath the nose. This approach maintains the natural appearance of the nose while adjusting the bridge height.

Preservation rhinoplasty VS traditional rhinoplasty

In traditional rhinoplasty. The surgeon must interfere with the soft tissues to remove bone and cartilage. The soft tissues contain blood and lymphatic vessels. They are responsible for blood circulation and healing.

Preservation rhinoplasty is performed in a plane other than the nose. One where the surgeon does not need to interfere with the soft tissues during the procedure. It brings the added benefit of a faster and more efficient recovery. Since the operation does not alter the blood supply to the area.

Postoperative conservative rhinoplasty: It is performed under general anaesthesia and the same day you can go home after a recovery of approximately 4 hours.

A splint is placed which is removed in approximately 5-7 days and intranasal plates that allow for proper breathing and cleaning of the area (I do not use earplugs).
